Abstract

The aim is to determine the relationship between affect labeling and Generation Z's mental health problems. Using quantitative method with descriptive correlational design and cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 385 respondents aged 18-27 years using Convenience sampling technique. The instruments used were Affect Labeling Questionnaire (ALQ) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Data analysis used Spearman's Rho correlation test. The results showed that affect labeling was significantly negatively correlated with depression (r = -0.102, p = 0.045) and anxiety (r = -0.140, p = 0.006), but no significant correlation was found between ALQ and stress (ρ = -0.040, p = 0.436). This finding suggests that the higher an individual's ability in affect labeling, the lower their symptoms of depression and anxiety tend to be. It can be concluded that affect labeling can be one of the effective strategies in helping Generation Z cope with emotional distress. Therefore, it is recommended to develop technology-based interventions that integrate affect labeling as a preventive and promotive approach in maintaining the mental health of the younger generation.
