Abstract
Cuba is the last state to adopt the ideology of socialism in the western hemisphere. This cannot be separated from the central figure in Cuba, Fidel Castro, who had led the country for nearly 50 years. The United States used the ideology of democracy to intervene the sovereignty of Cuba. Many things have been done by the United States, started from sponsoring invasion of Bay of Pigs until imposing the trade embargo on Cuba . However, president after president handed over their chair in nearly five decades and Fidel Castro was still on his, though the domestic condition was not really well inside Cuba, especially the economy. Moreover, the USSR collapsed in 1991 marking the end of Cold-War. Cuba then lost its main supoorter. In addition to that, the United States tightened its embargo sanction on Cuba. Many international relations scholars and politician pridicted Cuba would not have survived. But history was to prove them wrong. Data collecting and information gathering were conducted through literature review from various books, journals and articles. The data was then analyzed to produce a valid analysis and reliability on the data itself. From the result of the research, the foreign policy of Cuba under Fidel Castro regime in dealing with the United States can be examined. After studying and analysing the data and information, it can be concluded that Cuba did cope with the embargo by the United States by forming strategic alliance, revitalizing its economy and opening its economy. As a result, the restructurization of economy in Cuba was brought to success as Cuba could survive from the embargo.
