Abstract
Latar belakang: Self-esteem adalah salah satu komponen keberhasilan seseorang dalam mencapai kesuksesan, karena peningkatan self-esteem pada individu akan menentukan keberhasilan maupun kegagalan di masa depan. Stres akademik merupakan fenomena yang sering dialami oleh mahasiswa di berbagai insitusi pendidikan tinggi, termasuk di bidang keperawatan dan terjadi karena mahasiswa mengalami tekanan selama masa studi dan proses pembelajaran. Stres akademik yang dialami mahasiswa dapat mempengaruhi tinggi rendahnya self-esteem. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengindentifikasi hubungan stres akademik dan self-esteem pada mahasiswa keperawatan di satu universitas swasta Indonesia bagian barat. Metode: Metode penelitian kuantitatif korelasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik non-probability sampling dengan tipe purposive sampling berjumlah 222 mahasiswa. Pengukuran variabel stres akademik menggunakan kuesioner Student-Life stress Inventory sedangkan instrumen untuk mengukur variabel self-esteem menggunakan kuesioner Rosenberg’s self-esteem. Analisa data yang digunakan adalah analisa univariat dan bivariat dengan uji korelasi chi-square. Pembahasan: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara stres akademik dan self-esteem pada mahasiswa keperawatan p value < 0,001. Mahasiswa keperawatan yang mengalami stres akademik disebabkan karena adanya tuntutan akademik yang dapat memengaruhi self-esteem menjadi rendah dan mengakibatkan mahasiswa umumnya kurang yakin terhadap kemampuan diri sendiri khususnya dalam melakukan asuhan keperawatan. Rekomendasi: Mahasiswa diharapkan dapat memperoleh pengetahuan mengenai hubungan stres akademik dan self-esteem, dan bagi institusi diharapkan untuk dapat secara proaktif melakukan pengembangan dan menerapkan salah satu program yang bertujuan untuk mengurangi stres akademik dan meningkatkan self-esteem mahasiswa keperawatan./Background: Self-esteem is one of the components of a person's success in achieving success, because increasing self-esteem in individuals will determine success or failure in the future. Academic stress is a phenomenon that is often experienced by students in various higher education institutions, including in the field of nursing and occurs due to the pressure felt by students during the study period and the learning process. Academic stress experienced by students can affect the high and low self-esteem. Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between academic stress and self-esteem in nursing students at a private university in western Indonesia. Methods: Correlational quantitative research method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study using non-probability sampling technique with purposive sampling type amounted to 222 students. Measurement of academic stress variables used the student-Life stress Inventory questionnaire while the instrument to measure self-esteem variables used Rosenberg's self-esteem questionnaire. Data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square correlation test. Discussion: The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between academic stress and self-esteem in nursing students p value <0.001. Nursing students who experience academic stress are caused by academic demands that can affect self-esteem to be low and result in students generally lacking confidence in their own abilities, especially in providing nursing care. Recomendations: Students are expected to gain knowledge about the relationship between academic stress and self-esteem, and for institutions to be able to proactively develop and implement one of the programs aimed at reducing academic stress and increasing self-esteem of nursing students.
