Abstract

Adaptive game design has emerged as an effective approach to creating personalized gameplay experiences. In this study, the approach is applied to dynamically adjust game missions based on player preferences inferred from in-game behavior. The focus is on developing Adaptive Strike, a first-person shooter (FPS) game that uses fuzzy logic to identify player types based on the HEXAD model—Achiever, Free Spirit, Disruptor, or Player—and delivers missions tailored to those types. The game was developed using Unity for the PC platform and tested with participants aged 15–25. Evaluation was conducted using the Game User Experience Satisfaction Scale (GUESS-18), which measures player satisfaction across five main factors: usability, enjoyment, play engrossment, creative freedom, and personal gratification. As the data was normally distributed, an independent sample t-test was used to compare satisfaction levels between players who played the adaptive version and those who played a linear version of the game. The results from 44 respondents indicate that the adaptive game group had significantly higher satisfaction levels compared to the linear game group. These findings suggest that adaptive game design using fuzzy logic can significantly enhance player satisfaction compared to a linear game experience.
