Abstract
Referensi: 46 (1998–2024). Kata kunci: status kecemasan, status hidrasi. / THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANXIETY STATUS AND HYDRATION STATUS IN PRECLINIC STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE UNIVERSITAS PELITA HARAPAN xix + 65 Pages + 2 Figures + 3 Charts + 14 Tables + 9 Attachment Background: Anxiety is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders, associated with fear and expressed as a future-oriented mood state, characterized by a complex interplay of cognitive, emotional, and physiological responses. Sympathetic nervous system activation due to anxiety may increase fluid loss, potentially affecting an individual’s hydration status. A previous study in Spain found a correlation between anxiety status and hydration status, showing that individuals with higher anxiety tend to have poorer fluid balance. However, studies exploring this relationship in Indonesia remain limited. Therefore, this research aims to contribute further insights into the relationship between anxiety status and hydration status. Objectives: To determine the relationship between anxiety status and hydration status among preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design and Chi-square statistical analysis. It was conducted on 75 Pre-clinical Medical Students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University, using a non-probability sampling technique. Data was obtained through the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) questionnaire and self-assessed urine testing (PURI). Result: Based on the assessment of state anxiety, 42 participants (56%) experienced moderate anxiety, while 13 participants (17.3%) experienced severe anxiety. For trait anxiety, 47 participants (62,7%) were categorized as having moderate anxiety, and 10 participants (13.3%) were classified as having severe anxiety. In terms of hydration status, 45 participants (60%) were found to have mild dehydration, and 5 participants (6.7%) had severe dehydration. The Chi-square test showed a significant association between anxiety status and hydration status (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between anxiety status and hydration status among pre-clinical female medical students Universitas Pelita Harapan. References: 46 (1998–2024). Keywords: anxiety status, hydration status.
