Abstract

The widespread use of social media among employees for sharing personal information presents a growing dilemma: distinguishing between constructive self-disclosure and potentially harmful oversharing. This study investigates how employees at Sekolah Pelita Harapan Kemang Village navigate personal information management on social media while upholding the institution’s Christian values. Adopting a qualitative case study methodology, the research involved in-depth interviews with nine employees occupying diverse professional roles. The findings indicate that self-disclosure is often perceived as a means to foster trust and relational closeness; however, the absence of clear boundaries between public and private spheres can lead to oversharing and its attendant risks. Psychological stress, professional identity, perceived audience, and levels of emotional and spiritual maturity emerge as key factors influencing disclosure behavior. The study underscores the importance of contextual sensitivity and ethical digital conduct in managing online self-presentation. It recommends that institutions establish comprehensive communication training and enforce well-defined social media policies to cultivate a culture of professionalism and digital responsibility among employees in an increasingly connected world.
