Abstract
This study examines the impact of globalization and technological advancement on digital trade (e-commerce), particularly in shaping the dynamics of international trade in Indonesia. While e-commerce facilitates transactions and meets consumer demands more efficiently, it also contributes to market disruption, notably through the massive influx of imported goods that threaten the viability of local products. This research is significant in understanding how e-commerce induces disruption in Indonesia’s international trade and how the Indonesian government can mitigate these market challenges. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through online searches. The study is grounded in the perspective of digital neo-mercantilism. The findings reveal that dropshipping practices in digital commerce have intensified the dominance of foreign products in the domestic market. In response, the Indonesian government issued Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023 to address the disruptions caused by digital trade during President Joko Widodo’s administration. This policy effectively prioritizes and protects local Indonesian products through the implementation of a dedicated landing page on an e-commerce platform.
