Abstract

Dalam era komunikasi digital, penggunaan emoji menjadi fenomena yang tidak terelakkan, bahkan dalam ranah profesional. Platform seperti WhatsApp memungkinkan penyampaian pesan yang cepat namun minim isyarat nonverbal, sehingga emoji kerap dijadikan alat bantu untuk memperjelas ekspresi, memperkuat nuansa emosional, dan mencairkan suasana. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik wawancara terstruktur terhadap sebelas karyawan PT Cliste Rekayasa Indonesia dari berbagai posisi dan generasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa emoji paling banyak digunakan dalam konteks informal seperti menyampaikan apresiasi, candaan, atau memperhalus kritik. Mayoritas informan menyatakan bahwa emoji membantu memperjelas pesan dan tidak menimbulkan ambiguitas, terutama jika digunakan sesuai konteks dan relasi antarindividu. Namun, terdapat batasan dalam penggunaannya, khususnya ketika berinteraksi dengan atasan, di mana kesopanan dan profesionalisme menjadi pertimbangan utama. Perbedaan generasi juga memengaruhi gaya penggunaan emoji; karyawan Gen Z cenderung lebih ekspresif dan variatif dibanding generasi senior. Kesimpulannya, emoji memberikan dampak positif terhadap komunikasi profesional, terutama dalam membangun keakraban dan memperkuat nuansa emosional, namun penggunaannya tetap perlu disesuaikan dengan konteks hubungan kerja dan struktur organisasi. / In the digital communication era, the use of emojis has become an inevitable phenomenon—even within professional settings. Platforms like WhatsApp enable fast messaging yet lack nonverbal cues, making emojis useful for clarifying expression, reinforcing emotional tones, and reducing interpersonal tension. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method using structured interviews with eleven employees of PT Cliste Rekayasa Indonesia from various positions and generational backgrounds. The findings revealed that emojis are primarily used in informal contexts such as expressing appreciation, humor, or softening criticism. Most informants agreed that emojis help clarify messages and rarely cause ambiguity, particularly when used appropriately in context and interpersonal relationships. However, usage is more restrained when interacting with superiors, as politeness and professionalism are prioritized. Generational differences also play a role: Gen Z employees tend to use emojis more expressively and diversely than their older counterparts. In conclusion, emojis have a positive impact on professional communication by fostering rapport and emotional clarity, though their usage should be contextually aligned with workplace relationships and organizational hierarchy.
