Abstract
Ekstrak kayu secang (Biancaea sappan L.) berpotensi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan tinggi. Antioksidan berperan penting dalam menetralisir radikal bebas yang dapat merusak sel dan mempercepat penuaan kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi potensi antioksidan ekstrak kayu secang serta efektivitasnya dalam formula alas bedak. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode DPPH untuk menentukan IC50 ekstrak dan sediaan alas bedak dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak kayu secang 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, dan 9%. Sediaan dilakukan optimasi preparasi menggunakan pelarut n-heksan, etanol, metanol, air, dan kombinasi pelarut. Hasil penelitian menunjukan nilai IC50 ekstrak sebesar 18,358 ppm dengan kategori antioksidan kuat, meskipun lebih rendah jika dibandingkan pembanding vitamin c (IC50 5,962 ppm). Metanol terbukti efektif memisahkan senyawa antioksidan dari matriks alas bedak, memberikan hasil pengukuran lebih optimal. Nilai IC50 didapat berdasarkan variasi konsentrasi 9% sebesar 126,340 ppm, 7% sebesar 164.642 ppm, 5% sebesar 181.763 ppm, 3% sebesar 200,124 ppm, sedangkan konsentrasi 1%, IC50 mencapai 244,233 ppm menunjukkan konsentrasi ekstrak lebih tinggi meningkatkan aktivitas antioksidan. Berdasarkan uji kesukaan dari 20 panelis, hasil menunjukkan bahwa Formula 1 memiliki nilai tertinggi untuk kategori warna, Formula 2 dan 3 untuk rasa, dan Formula 1 untuk tekstur. Dengan demikian, ekstrak kayu secang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan dalam kosmetik./Sappan wood extract (Biancaea sappan L.) has the potential for high antioxidant activity. Antioxidants play an important role in neutralizing free radicals that can damage cells and accelerate skin aging. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant potential of sappan wood extract and its effectiveness in foundation formulations. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method to determine the IC50 of the extract and foundation preparations with varying concentrations of sappan wood extract at 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 9%. Optimization of preparation was conducted using solvents such as n-hexane, ethanol, methanol, water, and combinations of these solvents. The results showed that the extract's IC50 was 18.358 ppm, categorized as a strong antioxidant, although lower compared to the standard vitamin C (IC50 5.962 ppm). Methanol proved effective in separating antioxidant compounds from the foundation matrix, providing more optimal measurement results. The IC50 values obtained based on concentration variations were as follows: 9% at 126.340 ppm, 7% at 164.642 ppm, 5% at 181.763 ppm, 3% at 200.124 ppm, and 1% at 244.233 ppm, indicating that higher extract concentrations enhance antioxidant activity. Based on a preference test from 20 panelists, Formula 3 scored the highest for color, Formula 4 for taste, and Formula 5 for texture. Thus, sappan wood extract shows potential as an antioxidant in cosmetic formulations.
