Abstract
The lip skin is the outermost layer directly exposed to free radicals. The methanol extract of pomegranate peel (Punica granatum L.) has been studied for its antioxidant ability to neutralize free radicals. This research aimed to develop an antioxidant lip tint formulation using pomegranate peel extract. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method to determine the IC50 value. The results showed that pomegranate peel extract had strong antioxidant activity (13.516 ppm). The extract was formulated into a lip tint with concentrations of 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5%, and 15%. At the highest concentration, the lip tint formulation achieved an IC50 92.963 ppm, with higher extract concentrations providing stronger antioxidant activity. A preference test was conducted with 20 panelists evaluating color, aroma, and texture. The most preferred formulations were F1, F0, F3, F2, F4, and F5. Based on antioxidant inhibition percentages, a two-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test were applied, considering formulation factors and concentration variations. The results indicated significant differences among formulas, forming distinct groups. The highest inhibition percentages followed this order: F5, F4, F3, F2, and F1. Formula F5 was considered the optimal formulation due to its strong antioxidant activity (IC50 92.963 ppm).
