Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana Generasi Z di Indonesia memaknai dan mengadopsi gaya komunikasi serta penggunaan bahasa yang berkembang melalui tren di media sosial TikTok. Generasi Z, sebagai digital native, menunjukkan kecenderungan untuk menggunakan bahasa gaul, slang, meme, dan campuran bahasa Indonesia–Inggris sebagai bagian dari ekspresi diri dan identitas kelompok. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan paradigma konstruktivis, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi netnografi terhadap sepuluh pengguna aktif TikTok berusia 21–26 tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gaya komunikasi TikTok tidak hanya memengaruhi komunikasi di platform digital, tetapi juga terbawa ke dalam kehidupan sehari-hari di lingkungan informal maupun formal. Penggunaan istilah viral seperti “gaskeun” atau “no debat” mencerminkan integrasi bahasa digital ke dalam praktik komunikasi sosial. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa TikTok telah menjadi ruang produksi budaya yang membentuk pola komunikasi baru di kalangan generasi muda, serta menunjukkan bagaimana media sosial menjadi agen perubahan linguistik dan identitas sosial. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi pada kajian komunikasi digital dan menjadi referensi bagi pendidik, praktisi media, serta pembuat kebijakan literasi digital. / This study explores how Generation Z in Indonesia interprets and adopts communication styles and language use shaped by trends on the social media platform TikTok. As digital natives, Gen Z tends to use slang, hybrid Indonesian-English phrases, memes, and viral expressions as forms of self-expression and group identity. Using a descriptive qualitative approach within a constructivist paradigm, data were collected through in-depth interviews and netnographic observation of ten active TikTok users aged 21–26. The findings reveal that TikTok influences not only digital communication but also everyday interpersonal interactions, especially in informal and semi-formal settings. The frequent use of popular terms such as “gaskeun” or “no debat” illustrates the integration of digital language into offline social conversations. The study highlights TikTok as a space for cultural production that shapes new communication patterns among young people and acts as a driver of linguistic and social identity transformation. These findings aim to contribute to the field of digital communication studies and offer insights for educators, media practitioners, and digital literacy policymakers.
