Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of the door to door political communication strategy implemented by Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDI Perjuangan) during the 2024 General Election, with a specific focus on the Tangerang City area. The research highlights the disparity between the rising electability of the party's presidential candidate and the stagnation or decline in the party’s own vote share. The door to door strategy, as a form of interpersonal communication that is direct and personal, is believed to foster emotional closeness with voters. However, in the context of this study, the strategy proved to be more effective in promoting the presidential candidate rather than strengthening the party's image and voter support. This research employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews and document analysis. The findings reveal that the effectiveness of the door to door communication strategy is strongly influenced by message orientation, the appeal of the presidential figure, and voters’ perceptions of the political party. This phenomenon demonstrates a gap between the communication strategy applied and the party’s electoral outcomes, offering a critical reflection for political parties to design more holistic and balanced campaign communication models in the future.
