Abstract
This study aims to reveal more precisely the errors of students according to Newman's theory, the factor that cause errors in completing mathematical problem-solving in word problems on addition and subtraction material for 1st grade students, and the strategies that can help students learn problem solving in mathematics on addition and subtraction material. This study uses a qualitative method (case study) using observation, interview, documentation and written test instruments. This study was conducted at SD XYZ Bogor in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample in this study consisted of three grade 1 students in the 2024/2025 academic year who had mathematics test scores below standard and were adjusted to the criteria for types of errors according to Newman's theory to be used as a source of data in this study. The focus of the problem in this study is what types of errors are experienced by students based on the five types of errors in Newman's theory in completing mathematical problem-solving in word problems on addition and subtraction material for grade 1 SD XYZ Bogor, the factors that cause errors, and the strategies used. The results of this study, there are five forms of errors made by students, namely reading errors, comperhension errors, transformation errors, process skills errors, and endcoding errors caused by various factors. In addition, the application of role playing strategies, specially designed learning videos, and quizziz can help students learn problem solving in mathematics on addition and subtraction material. / Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan secara lebih tepat bentuk-bentuk kesalahan siswa menurut teori Newman, faktor-faktor penyebab, dan strategi dalam menyelesaikan pemecahan masalah dalam soal cerita matematika materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan kelas 1 SD, dan strategi yang digunakan untuk membantu siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif (studi kasus) dengan menggunakan instrumen observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan test tertulis. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SD XYZ Bogor pada semester Genap tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah tiga siswa kelas 1 yang merupakan siswa dengan nilai ujian matematika yang di bawah standar serta disesuaikan dengan kriteria bentuk-bentuk kesalahan menurut teori Newman untuk dijadikan sumber data dalam penelitian ini. Hal yang menjadi fokus permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bentuk-bentuk kesalahan yang dialami siswa berdasarkan teori Newman dalam menyelesaikan pemecahan masalah pada soal cerita penjumlahan dan pengurangan matematika kelas 1 SD XYZ Bogor, faktor penyebab, dan strategi yang dilakukan. Hasil dari penelitian ini, terdapat lima bentuk kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa, yaitu kesalahan membaca, memahami, mentransformasi, memproses kemampuan, dan menulis jawaban yang disebabkan oleh berbagai faktor. Selain itu, penerapan strategi role playing, video pembelajaran, dan quiz yang didesain khusus dapat membantu siswa mempelajari pemecahan masalah materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan.
