Abstract
In choosing and using drugs for illnesses or symptoms using drugs that are safe and can be used without a prescription. However, this practice of self-medication has the potential to cause medication errors if not done properly, which can result in not achieving the expected therapeutic effect. The role of pharmaceutical personnel is important in ensuring the selection of the right drug, the right dose, no side effects, no contraindications, no drug interactions and no use of various types of drugs simultaneously. This study aims to determine the implementation of self-medication services and the suitability of drugs recommended by pharmaceutical personnel. The research method used was descriptive prospective by conducting direct observation of 271 patients from February to March 2025 at Pharmacy X Tangerang City. The results showed that the implementation of self-medication services had achieved standard operating procedures (SOPs) as much as 54.5% and appropriate drug recommendations reached 97.4%. A total of 98.6% of patients received drug recommendations from pharmaceutical personnel. These results show the important role of pharmaceutical personnel in ensuring safety and effectiveness in self-medication services. Therefore, efforts to improve the quality of pharmaceutical services can be made through the socialization of SOPs and training on over-the-counter and limited over-the-counter drugs, so that self-medication services can be improved.
