Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi komunikasi keluarga dalam pengambilan keputusan melalui film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika John Fiske. Film ini menampilkan dinamika komunikasi dalam keluarga Batak yang sarat dengan nilai tradisional dan struktur patriarki. Melalui tiga level analisis semiotik yaitu realitas, representasi, dan ideologi, penelitian ini mengungkap bagaimana tanda-tanda komunikasi non- verbal, seperti ekspresi wajah, gestur, dan keheningan, membentuk makna dalam relasi keluarga. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa analisis teks film dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film ini merepresentasikan komunikasi keluarga yang di dominasi oleh figur ayah sebagai pusat otoritas, serta munculnya konflik antar generasi akibat perbedaan pandangan nilai tradisional dan modern. Transformasi karakter ayah yang semula otoriter menjadi lebih terbuka menunjukkan pergeseran nilai dalam struktur komunikasi keluarga. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pentingnya komunikasi partisipatif dalam keluarga dan membuka ruang refleksi budaya terhadap relasi kekuasaan dalam pengambilan keputusan. Referensi: 28 (1982-2025) / This study aims to analyze the representation of family communication in decision- making as portrayed in the film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap, using John Fiske’s semiotic approach. The film illustrates the dynamics of communication within a Batak family, emphasizing traditional values and patriarchal structures. Through Fiske's three levels of semiotic analysis—reality, representation, and ideology—this study explores how non-verbal communication signs, such as facial expressions, gestures, and silence, construct meaning in familial relationships. This qualitative descriptive study employed film text analysis and literature review as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that the film represents family communication dominated by the father figure as the central authority, and generational conflict stemming from value differences between tradition and modernity. The father's transformation from authoritarian to more open reflects a shift in communication structures within the family. This study highlights the importance of participatory communication and cultural reflection on power relations in family decision-making.
