Abstract
Korean Pop Culture adalah salah satu produk Korean Wave yang digunakan untuk mendukung pelaksanaan diplomasi publik Pemerintah Korea Selatan. Sarat akan kreativitas, pemerintah Korea Selatan bekerja sama dengan pihak swasta mengembangkan K-Pop dan mengintegrasikannya dengan sektor industri lain. Peranan media sosial di era globalisasi memberikan kemudahan bagi Korea Selatan untuk memperlihatkan apa yang dimiliki K-Pop ke dunia global. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peranan K-Pop dalam strategi diplomasi public Korea Selatan serta untuk mengidentifikasi kontribusi K-Pop terhadap perkembangan sektor perekonomian Korea Selatan.
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari data primer seperti kebijakan – kebijakan, publikasi pemerintah dan informasi resmi yang didapatkan dari website resmi Korea Selatan dan data sekunder berupa informasi dari jurnal, koran, majalah serta artikel yang diterbitkan lewat media cetak maupun yang tayang di televisi dan internet.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa K-Pop berperan sebagai elemen penting dalam strategi diplomasi publik yang diusung oleh Korea Selatan serta memberikan kontribusi terhadap sektor perekonomian Korea Selatan itu sendiri. Hal ini dikarenakan K-Pop adalah produk dari budaya populer yang banyak diminati oleh masyarakat global. Konsep Ekonomi Kreatif pun diusung oleh pemerintah Korea Selatan dengan melibatkan K-Pop untuk mendorong perkembangan sektor perekonomian Korea Selatan. / Korean Pop Culture is one of the Korean Wave products that is used to support the implementation of the South Korean Government’s public diplomacy. Full embodied by creativity, the South Korean government is working with the private sector to develop K-Pop and integrate it with other industrial sectors. The role of social media in the era of globalization makes it easier for South Korea to show what K-Pop has to the global world. This study aims to determine the role of K-Pop in South Korea's public diplomacy strategy and to identify the contribution of K-Pop to South Korea’s economic growth.
This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The data used in this study consists of the primary data such as policies, publication and other official information obtained from the official South Korean website and secondary data from journals, newspapers, magazines and articles published through print media or on the internet and television.
The results show that K-Pop plays an important element in the public diplomacy strategy promoted by South Korea and contributes to the South Korean economy sector itself. This is because K-Pop is a product of popular culture that is in great demand by the global community. The concept of the Creative Economy was promoted by the South Korean government by involving K-Pop to encourage the development of the South Korean economic sector.
