Abstract

Humans by nature are social creatures that need to interact with others. By interacting, there will be relationships established as the result of communicating with others. One of the relationships is friendship. There is a research that people are getting more individualistic due to the advancement of technology in 21st Century. People have grown to find sources of entertainment through media and one of them is webcomics. Since mass media have been playing an important role to shape our perception, there are concepts that can be represented through media platforms. With friendship being represented, people may become to be more aware on how important friendship is. The object of this research is the comic “Wonderwall: Season 2”. Wonderwall is a famous Indonesian comic that is shared on the platform of LINE Webtoon to show how friendship is represented. With using descriptive and qualitative approach, the researcher will use semiotics by Charles Sanders Peirce to analyze the data collected coming to the conclusion that there are three characteristics of friendship according to Julia T.Wood, which are willingness to invest, trust, and support represented in the comic. / Manusia pada dasarnya adalah makhluk sosial yang perlu berinteraksi dengan orang lain. Dengan adanya berinteraksi, akan adanya membangun hubungan yang terjalin sebagai hasil dengan cara berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Salah satu hubungan yang bisa dibangun adalah persahabatan. Ada penelitian bahwa orang menjadi lebih individualistis akibar perkembangan teknologi yang pesat di abad ke-21 ini. Manusia bisa mendapatkan sumber hiburan dari media dan salah satunya adalah webcomics. Dengan media massa yang penting untuk membentuk persepsi kita, konsep-konsep bisa direpresentasikan melaluinya. Dengan merepresentasikan friendship, manusia bisa lebih sadar betapa pentingnya persahabatan. Objek penelitian ini adalah komik “Wonderwall: Season 2”. Wonderwall adalah komik terkenal buatan Indonesia yang hadir dalam platform LINE WEBTOON untuk menunjukan bagaimana persahabatan itu bisa direpresentasikan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, peneliti akan menggunakan analisis semiotika oleh Charles Sanders Peirce untuk menganalisa data yang dikumpulkan untuk mengidentifikasi tanda, objek, dan interpretan. Disimpulkan bahwa ada tiga karakteristik friendship menurut Julia T.Wood yaitu willingness to invest, trust, dan support yang direpresentasikan di komik tersebut.
