Abstract

Video Game merupakan media yang menuntut adanya interaksi langsung dari penggunanya. Video Game sebagai media telah hadir sejak era 70an, dan telah menjadi hobi banyak orang. Video Game seringkali mengandung kekerasan, dan banyak orang yang menganggap bahwa kekerasan dalam kehidupan nyata muncul akibat Video Game. Salah satu Video Game yang paling populer adalah Video Game Player Unknown’s Battleground yang diciptakan oleh Brendan Greene. PUBG memiliki genre Battle Royale, dan genre itu telah membuat PUBG amat populer di dunia dan Indonesia. Komunitas Esports Indonesia gemar akan PUBG, dan komunitas tersebut terus membesar. PUBG sering disebutkan sebagai penyebab kekerasan, maka penting untuk mencari tahu bagaimana Komunitas Esports di Indonesia mempersepsikan kekerasan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam (In-Depth Interview) dengan Informan yang merupakan anggota dari Komunitas Esports Indonesia. Data kemudian dianalisa menggunakan metode Analisa Persepsi karya Joseuph A. DeVito. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Komunitas Esports Indonesia melihat kekerasan dalam PUBG sebagai fitur tambahan dan bukan fitur utama. Namun mungkin adanya kekerasan verbal yang muncul dalam permainan PUBG. Kemudian Komunitas Esports mampu membedakan Kekerasan dalam Game dan kehidupan nyata, dan bahwa Video Game bisa mereka pergunakan sebagai sarana penyaluran agresi. / Video Games is a medium that demands interaction from its players. Video Games have been around since the 70s, and is a hobby for many people. However, Video Games contain violence within its medium. This led to accounts of people blaming Video Games as the cause of violence. Brendan Greene’s Player Unknown’s Battleground is a game with worldwide acclaim. PUBG is known for its Battle Royale Genre, and this acquired it fame worldwide and in Indonesia. Many countries have accusing PUBG for real-world violence . Therefore the researcher finds it important to know how The Indonesian Esports Community perceives the violence within PUBG. This research was conducted using the qualitative research approach and using the descriptive research method. Data gathering was carried out by way of In-depth interviews with respectable members of the Indonesian Esports Community. Found data is then analysed using the Perception model created by Joseph A. DeVito. The researcher found that the violence that The Esports Community of Indonesia finds Violence in PUBG as an added feature rather than a main one. Also that verbal violence can appear during PUBG’s Gameplay. The Esports community can differ between in-game and real-world violence, and that they can use the game as an outlet of their real life aggression.
