As a welfare state, it is a sole duty for Indonesia to provides the welfare for its people. The welfare can be achieved through many ways, one of them is protecting people’s rights by making regulations. As a result of current development in technology and information, aside from positive impacts it brings, problems arise including in the form of piracy of cinematographic works through free online streaming websites. This action surely brings disadvantage to people who own rights of their works. Based on reviewing the Copyright Law, this thesis would put on analysis on how the law provides legal protection to cinematographic works in Indonesia and implementation of regulations along with legal remedies carried out by the government. The type of research done in this study is a normative study by reviewing Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright. The massive violation of law that still often found in Indonesia is a result of the Copyright Law that’s not in accordance of progressive development in technology and only concerning to conventional problems, the lack of education and awareness regarding copyright received by the people also causes vast amount of violation. Therefore, the copyright law should be revised in order to resolve the urging matter that is digital piracy.
