Abstract
Anak yang terlantar dapat disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor seperti kasus orangtua yang meninggal, orangtua yang bercerai, dan masih banyak lagi. Akibatnya, anak-anak tersebut harus melewati masa perkembangannya tanpa bimbingan dan pengawasan dari orangtua kandung. Solusi yang didapatkan oleh anak-anak tersebut ialah dengan tinggal di rumah Panti Asuhan bersama dengan orang-orang yang tidak mereka kenal (the generalize others). Akan tetapi, saat anak mulai tinggal di Panti Asuhan, maka peran pengasuh berubah menjadi the particular others. Pengasuh membantu pembentukan konsep diri anak dengan memberikan direct definition (definisi langsung), life script (naskah kehidupan), serta attachment style (gaya kelekatan).
Penelitian mengenai pembentukan konsep diri anak di Panti Asuhan Kasih Sesama Umat melalui komunikasi antarpribadi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Peneliti menggunakan wawancara mendalam bersama dua orang pengasuh dan dua orang anak asuh, serta melakukan observasi sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Pemberian direct definition dan life script menjadi cara yang efektif dalam pembentukan konsep diri anak karena melibatkan komunikasi langsung antara pengasuh dan anak/Neglected children can be caused by several factors such as cases of parents who died, divorced parents, and many more. As a result, these children must pass through the development period without the guidance and supervision of their biological parents. The solution obtained by these children is to stay in the Orphanage, together with people they do not know (the generalize others). But, when the child starts living in the Orphanage, then the role of caregivers changes to the particular others. Caregivers help to form the child's self-concept by providing direct definition, life script, and attachment style.
Research on the formation of self-concept of children in Panti Asuhan Kasih Sesama Umat through interpersonal communication uses a qualitative approach with descriptive research methods. Researchers used in-depth interviews with two caregivers and two foster children, and made observations as a data collection method. Provision of direct definition and life script to be an effective way in forming the child's self-concept because it involves direct communication between caregivers and children.
