Abstract
The condition of Indonesia’s biodiversity has been deteriorating due to the destructive behaviour of the people. On the other hand, there are still a lot of people who lack of knowledge on the biodiversity itself. They have no inisiative to search for information about it, or receive no information, or even because they don’t care about it. So a species of animal can become extinct unnoticed. The intention to introduce Indonesian rare animals to the public is the basis for the design. It is expected that this project will create new awareness and motivate the Indonesians to be more concerned with the conservation of Indonesian rare animals from extinction. The approach of this design is to target young children as the main users, who will learn the additional knowledge beyond their school time. For this purpose, the learning activity should be fun, be attractive, and stimulate their curiosity. Thus educational toy will definitely fit for this purpose. The design process begin with observing the children behaviour while playing and the parents’ preferences in choosing toys for their children. When selecting the rare animals for the program, the designer conducted some research in WWF (World Wide Fund) Indonesia. Furthermore, the research also covered some guidelines in designing toy for children. Some theories on the psychology of children behaviour were taken into consideration during the design process.
