Darfur crisis had challenged the main principles on China foreign policy. It was forced to trade off its non-interference and respect to sovereignty, in order to halt the human rights abuses in Darfur. China initially supported Sudanese government with abstaining from important Security Council Resolution but later showed its engagement to resolve the conflict. This research deliberates China’s interest in Sudan that later received criticisms from international community and how in the end the country responds to such criticism. This research employs neorealism as ground theory to explain the event with related concept such as human rights, humanitarian intervention, diplomacy of shaming, and hegemony. The method of this research is in qualitative with using illustrative method, and analytic comparison. The data were collected from literatures, websites, and related documents. The conclusion depicts that China’s changing behavior was resulted from pressure from hegemon state through widespread negative publication. A same time also it shows China’s turn to be constructive player stems from the need need to sustain its global interest and interest in Sudan.
