Abstract
Bahasa Indonesia sebagai alat komunikasi yang merupakan salah satu identitas bangsa seiring waktu sudah mulai tergeser kedudukannya oleh pengaruh budaya asing. Fenomena ini juga terjadi terutama di sekolah bertaraf internasional di Indonesia. Para siswa lebih fasih dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris baik secara lisan maupun tulisan. Hal ini menyebabkan rendahnya. motivasi dan keterampilan membaca dalam pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Hal ini juga berdampak terhadap kemandirian siswa untuk mengembangkan keterampilan membaca mereka karena keterbatasan kosakata dalam bahasa Indonesia yang mereka miliki. Berangkat dari masalah tersebut, maka tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan penerapan Literature Circle untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan keterampilan membaca siswa dalam bahasa Indonesia. (2) menganalisis perkembangan siswa terkait dengan tingkat motivasi dan keterampilan membaca dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. (3) melihat kendala-kendala yang terjadi selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. (4) melihat seberapa efektif Literature Circle untuk menjawab kebutuhan siswa terkait dengan upaya peningkatan motivasi dan keterampilan membaca siswa dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan tingkat motivasi dari Siklus 1 sampai Siklus 3 yaitu sebesar 41.67% untuk siswa yang berada pada kategori tinggi, serta peningkatan nilai keterampilan membaca dari Siklus 1 sampai Siklus 3 yaitu sebesar 45.7% siswa yang berada pada kategori tinggi. / Indonesian Language is an important part of our nation’s identity. It has an important role as a means of communication. Through time and the effects of globalization, Indonesian language is starting to get left behind. This phenomenon usually happens in International Schools in Indonesia. Students are more fluent in speaking and reading in English. This causes low motivation and decreasing reading skills in Indonesian language. Therefore the objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the application of Literature Circle method to improve motivation and students’ reading skills in Indonesian language. (2) to analyze students’ development in improving motivation and students’ reading skills in Indonesian language. (3) to identify the obstacles during the lessons. (4) to measure the effectiveness of Literature Circle method in improving motivation and students’ reading skills in Indonesian language. The result has shown the evidence of incremental level of motivation from the first cycle until the third cycle in the amount of 41.67% for the students in high level and also incremental level of reading skills motivation from the first cycle until the third cycle in the amount of 45.7% for the students in high level.
