Abstract

The act of terrorism has threatened to many countries. Indonesia and Australia are countries which had been targeted by the terrorist. The act of terrorism has been done by a terrorist group in Southeast Asia called the Jemaah Islamiyah. This group has been connected internationally through network with Al Qaeda in the Middle East. This military cooperation between Indonesia and Australia since this 2 countries has been a target by the terrorist act. This kinds of terrorist power has been connected internationally, which makes it crucial for Indonesia and Australia to have military cooperation. The writer is trying to make effort explaining that military cooperation is an important thing to handle terrorism issue. The kinds writing which uses the methodology of qualitative has been done through literature analysis. As the result appear with qualitative search, then it supports the writer to explain more about the topic. Other than that, the method also done by descriptive way where many part of the writing form with descriptions which makes the writer hopes to give much information as possible. The writer also use 3 theory called the institutionalism theory, interdependence theory and collective security theory. Then, 2 concepts also been apply to this writing called the military cooperation concept and terrorism concept. After that, all of these theories and concepts combined to be attached with the title. In this writing, the writer have some searching on source by using secondary data. All of these data are found formally through journals, Books and websites comes form several related institutions such as the Indonesian Defense Forces, Australian Department of foreign affairs and Trade and the alumni association of defense students. As the results comes, it proves that military cooperation is not only needed for operations such as war, but it could also be done to solve other issues besides war. It shows that military cooperation would be crucial to handle terrorism to help the police institution they reach their maximum capability to handle it. Moreover, a modern day terrorist acts have exceeds state boundaries. So that state boundaries would be in safety when military institutions take roles in terrorism handling as one of its operations. Then, military cooperation also a step to prevents conflict between countries and to reach the needs of peace.
