Abstract

The rapid growth of vehicles in Indonesia motivates inovation to improve the quality of pavement. One of the inovation is by modifying existing asphalt mixture aggregate with compatible waste product. This research uses Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) gradation as base mixture and glass waste as material to substitute for fine aggregate in asphalt mixtures. There are two main purposes of this research; to obtain the Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) in SMA gradation and find the optimum ratio for glass substitution in SMA mixture with same OAC. Good asphalt mixture is a mixture that have stability, durability, and skid resistance properties. Marshall test is conducted to find the value of stability in SMA mixtures and Cantabro Loss test to obtain the level of adhesion among components in said SMA mixtures. The fine aggregate that is substituted with glass is in the size range of sieve no.4 (4,75 mm) and sieve no.8 (2,36 mm). The Marshal and Cantabro Loss test result shows that the OAC of SMA mixture is 6%. The Marshall and Cantabro Loss tests show that the SMA mixtures that have been substituted with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% glass have stability values of 429,48 kg, 468,23 kg, 447,50 kg, and 367,34 kg, respectively. Moreover, the Cantabro Loss value are 9,2%, 5,83%, 6,95%, and 8,75%. It was concluded that the optimum stability and Cantabro Loss value can be obtained with SMA mixture with OAC 6% and 10% fine aggregate substitute. Asphalt mixture with 10% fine agregate substitute affect asphalt mixture without fine agregate substitute. effects are increase 9,02% stability value and lose 36,63% Cantabro Loss value.
