Abstract

Economic hardship is one of the problems faced by low-income residents which is chronic and may cause other difficulties. Despite facing many difficulties, lowincome residents will not always be maladaptive. Everyone might differ in thinking about the causes of the problem that will affect behavior. Therefore, this study aims to see whether resilience has a correlation with dimensions of causal attribution which are locus of causality, locus of stability, personal control, and external control. Participants of this study are 118 low-income residents who lived in lowcost apartments in DKI Jakarta. The study was conducted quantitatively with Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 10 and Revised Causal Dimension Scale research instruments. Results show a significant relationship between resilience and locus of causality dimensions (rs = 0.262, p <.01), locus of stability (rs = 0.208, p <.05), and personal control (rs = 0.188, p <.05). However, resilience did not correlate significantly with the external control dimension (rs = 0.142, p>.05). It indicates that the higher resilience of an individual, the more the individual will perceive that the cause of economic difficulties comes from himself, cannot be changed, and can be controlled by himself. Findings related to this phenomenon are discussed.
