Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi dan komunikasi adalah alasan dibalik munculnya berbagai media baru, yang saat ini telah menggantikan peran media konvensional. Alhasil, new media dan ComputerMediated Communication (CMC) telah menjadi topik yang banyak disorot peneliti. Penelitian ini berfokus pada Youtube, salah satu situs yang adalah produk dari kemunculan internet dan Web 2.0, serta aktivitas berbagi informasi melalui video dalam Youtube yang dikenal dengan sebutan ‘vlogging’. Aktivitas vlogging melibatkan para‘vlogger’ dalam memberikan informasi mengenai diri mereka maupun dunia sekitarnya kepada publik melalui unggahan vlog ke dalam Youtube. Dalam menampilkan diri mereka ke dalam sebuah vlog, para vlogger akan melakukan manajemen impresi tertentu untuk mencapai kesan yang mereka inginkan dari orang lain terhadap diri mereka, karena pada dasarnya manusia selalu peduli akan bagaimana dirinya terlihat di depan orang lain. Namun, seiring dengan teknologi yang semakin berkembang dan digitalisasi , aktivitas vlogging tidak lagi hanya dilakukan oleh manusia, namun juga oleh manusia virtual, yang disebut dengan posthuman. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti akan menganalisa vlog dari seorang virtual vlogger bernama Ami Yamato. Dengan metode kualitatif, peneliti hendak mengetahui manajemen impresi dari Ami Yamato, berfokus pada bagaimana Ami Yamato mengkonstruksikan impresi dalam vlog-nya. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Ami Yamato menggunakan beberapa taktik untuk mengkonstruksikan impresi. / The development of technology and communication are the reasons behind the emergence of several new media that have now replaced the role of conventional media.Thus, new media and Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) have been the topics concerned by researchers. This research focuses on Youtube, a site that was a product of Internet and Web 2.0, and a video-sharing activity on Youtube, known as ‘vlogging’. The activity of ‘vlogging’ involves vloggers in giving information about themselves and their surroundings to the public through uploading vlogs on Youtube. In presenting themselves in a vlog, vloggers will manage their impression to reach the desired impression they want others to give, as humans are always care on how they are seen in other people’s eyes. But, due to the evolving technology and digitalisation, the activity of ‘vlogging’ does not merely involve humans, but also virtual humans, called as ‘posthuman’. In this research, researcher will analyse vlogs of a virtual vlogger called Ami Yamato. By using qualitative method, reseacher wants to acknowledge the impression management of Ami Yamato, focusing on how Ami Yamato constructs impression in her vlogs. The result of the research shows that Ami Yamato uses several tactics to construct impression.
