Abstract

Indonesia dan Australia dikenal dengan the stranger next door karena hubungan keduanya yang tidak selalu harmonis namun tidak bisa dipisahkan sebagai negara yang berdekatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui lebih mendalam lagi kerja sama yang dilakukan antara Indonesia dan Australia di bidang keamanan dalam dua dekade terakhir. Dengan menggunakan perspektif realisme neoklasik, penelitian ini akan memusatkan perhatian pada kepentingan nasional dari Indonesia dan Australia yang selalu terkait dengan dinamika domestik dan internasional. Kerja sama keamanan yang dilakukan menjadi salah satu usaha untuk mewujudkan kepentingan nasional masing-masing negara. Melalui penggunaan metode historis dan studi kepustakaan, penelitian ini mendapatkan temuan-temuan sebagai berikut. Kepentingan nasional Indonesia dan Australia tidak banyak mengalami perubahan yang besar dari tahun 2001 ketahun 2020. Kepentingan nasional tetap berfokus pada upaya menciptakan keamanan domestik dan kawasan, meskipun pendekatan yang dilakukan mengalami perubahan seiring dengan perubahan pemimpin negara. Kerja sama keamanan yang dilaksanakan juga berkembang dalam hal keamanan maritim dan keamanan siber seiring dengan masalah keamanan yang dihadapi saat itu. / Indonesia and Australia are known as the stranger next door because their relations are not always harmonious but cannot be separated as neighboring countries. This study aims to find out more in-depth the cooperation carried out between Indonesia and Australia in the field of security in the last two decades. Using the perspective of neoclassical realism, this research will focus on the national interests of Indonesia and Australia which are always related to domestic and international dynamics. The security cooperation undertaken is an effort to realize the national interests of each country. Through the use of historical methods and literature studies, this research gets the following findings. The national interests of Indonesia and Australia have not experienced much major change from 2000 to 2020. National interests continue to focus on efforts to create domestic and regional security, even though the approach taken has changed in line with changes in the country's leaders. The security cooperation implemented also developed in terms of maritime security and cybersecurity along with the security problems faced at that time.
