Abstract

Semiotika adalah studi yang meneliti tanda-tanda dan makna yang terkandung di dalamnya. Perkembangan ilmiah tidak hanya meneliti simbol yang terdapat pada setiap masyarakat, tetapi lebih menyentuh aspek pembangunan dan pola pikir budaya dibelakangnya. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk meneliti aspek semiotik yang terkandung dalam Joker dan diperiksa secara khusus dari sisi kriminalitas. Joker adalah film genre crime, drama, thriller dengan tindakan kriminalitas di dalamnya. Dalam studi ini, Joker dianggap sebagai simbol yang mewakili kejahatan, dan simbol ditunjukan melalui karakter Joker. Dengan menggunakan analisis semiotik Roland Barthes, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui representasi kriminalitas yang difokuskan dalam film ini. Objek penelitian dalam tugas akhir ini adalah 5 potongan adegan dari film Joker 2019 yang mengandung kriminalitas. Kelima potongan adegan tersebut akan diteliti dengan menggunakan metodologi pebelitian kualitatif. Data-data untuk keperluan penelitian akan dikumpulkan dengan metode dokumentasi, observasi, dan studi pustaka. Dari hasil analisis potongan-potongan adegan yang menjadi objek penelitian tersebut, maka akan didapatkan aspek konotasi, denotasi, dan mitos dari kriminalitas yang direpresentasikan oleh masing-masing adegan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan hal yang sering dipakai untuk merepresentasikan kriminalitas di dalam film Joker adalah gestur tubuh, dialog, dan ekspresi wajah yang terdapat dalam masing-masing adegan dalam film tersebut / Semiotics is a study that examines the signs and meanings contained therein. Scientific developments not only examine the symbols found in every society, but rather touch the aspects of development and the cultural mindset behind it. This study tries to examine the semiotic aspects contained in the Joker and examine specifically in terms of crime. Joker is a crime genre film, drama, thriller with criminal acts in it. In this study, the Joker is considered a symbol that represents evil, and the symbol is shown through the character of the Joker. By using Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis, this study intends to find out the representation of crime that is focused in this film. The object of research in this thesis is 5 pieces of scenes from the 2019 Joker film that contains crime. The five pieces of the scene will be examined using a qualitative research methodology. The data for research purposes will be collected by the method of documentation, observation, and literature study. From the analysis of the pieces of the scene that were the object of the research, we will get the connotation, denotation, and myth aspects of the crime represented by each scene. The results of this study found that what is often used to represent crime in the Joker film is body gestures, dialogue, and facial expressions contained in each scene in the film.
