Abstract

Motivation in learning is important for students in learning progress. The role of a teacher is an important part of the process of teaching and learning, to guide the students in achieving the goals in learning, the teacher needs to keep the students motivated in the learning process, especially in asynchronous learning. There will be a challenge in giving motivation to the students during online learning, the teacher gave motivation through verbal communication. A Christian teacher applies Christian ethics in the teaching and learning process especially in giving encouragement to the student. The motivation through encouragement or verbal communication helps the students to actively participating during the learning process. Furthermore, this paper will discuss more about a Christian teacher as a guide in motivating grade IX students in asynchronous learning, with the support of some theories and previous studies, also the findings and data from the second practicum. The research method that will be used in this paper is qualitative descriptive research. The recommendation for the next researcher is to find out if it is effective to motivate the student through verbal communication in asynchronous learning for a long period of time.
