Abstract

Tingkat aktivitas fisik yang rendah dapat meningkatkan derajat keparahan dismenorea primer dan tingkat aktivitas fisik yang berat dapat menurunkan derajat keparahan dismenorea primer./ Background: Primary dysmenorrhoea is considered an emerging uterine disease that occurs during menstruation without any pathological conditions in the pelvis. In Indonesia, the prevalence of adolescents is increasing around 43% - 93%. Heavy physical activity can reduce the severity of primary dysmenorrhea due to the release of endorphins which can be used as analgesics that can reduce pain and vice versa. Although various studies have been conducted on the effect of physical activity on the severity of primary dysmenorrhea, there has not been much reported research that distinguish between mild and heavy physical activity on the severity of primary dysmenorrhoea especially in Pelita Harapan University female students because their physical activites vary with the respect of their respective majors. Aim: To find out the difference between mild and severe physical activity measured by Global Physical Activity Quesitonnaire on the severity of primary dysmenorrhoea measured by by WaLIDD score on Pelita Harapan University students. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional design study with random sampling. The research sample evaluated 68 studies divided into 2 groups: mild and heavy physical activity groups. Data collection were carried out by filling out the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire questionnaire to obtain physical assessments, Rhinessa women’s questionnaire to exclude secondary dysmenorrhoea, and WaLIDD scores to assess the severity of dysmenorrhoea. The results of the study is analyzed using Mann Whitney test. Results: In this study it was found that the average dysmenorrhoea score at the level of mild physical activity was 6.53 ± 1.376 and at the level of heavy physical activity which was 3.82 ± 0.936 with a p value <0.001. Conclusion: From the results of the study it was found that there are significant differences in values and averages between mild and heavy physical activity on the severity of primary dysmenorrhoea. Mild physical activity can increase the severity of primary dysmenorrhoea and severe physical activity can reduce the severity of primary dysmenorrhoea.
