Abstract

It is God’s mandate for His people to live as “one body” – to live in harmony with the communities God has put around them. As a community that is significant for young people’s lives, young people should have a sense of community established with the members of the school institution. However, online learning has surfaced issues that may be problematic to the process of fostering a sense of community in the school and classroom, the key factor being that online learning is done with its community members being physically apart. Prior to writing this paper, the author underwent an online teaching practicum and observed indications of a lack of sense of community between the students in the school. In this paper, the author applies the use of relay assignments to help foster a sense of community among students who undergo online learning – students who study while being physically apart. This paper is written using the qualitative descriptive method. The author found that relay assignments are effective to help students foster a sense of community while undergoing studies online.
