Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi pendekatan yang dilakukan Tigran Hamasyan pada lagunya yang berjudul ‘The Grid’ dan ‘Out of the Grid’. Dua komposisi tersebut dibangun dari suatu ide yang kemudian terus berkembang dengan adanya variasi pada berbagai elemen musik. Objek penelitian ini adalah lagu ‘The Grid’ dan ‘Out of the Grid’. Untuk memperoleh hasil, komposisi tersebut akan di transkripsi ke dalam partitur menggunakan alat bantu Transcribe dan Sibelius. Kemudian data tersebut dianalisis dan dipaparkan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi tersebut termasuk ke dalam kategori One-Part Polythematic form dimana terdapat kontras tematik. Sepanjang lagu, muncul melodi-melodi baru yang tidak berhubungan. Meski demikian, kedua komposisi tersebut masih terdengar seperti suatu cerita karena Tigran menginkorporasi pengembangan motif; khususnya secara ritmikal, ke dalam setiap bagian.
