Abstract

Komunikasi merupakan kebutuhan manusia yang paling mendasar, karena manusia merupakan makhluk sosial. Manusia butuh untuk berinteraksi, mengenal orang lain, memperkenalkan diri, dan mengungkapkan diri. Berkembangnya media digital telah mempermudah manusia untuk berkomunikasi tanpa perlu bertatap muka yaitu melalui media online. Media online dapat menjadi jembatan untuk membangun hubungan antarpribadi serta melakukan pengungkapkan diri.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengungkapan diri pada generasi millennial melalui fitur Instagram story. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan data primer yaitu in-depth interview dengan para key informan, dan data sekunder yaitu observasi non- partisipan untuk melihat bagaimana kebiasaan para key informan dalam mengungkapkan dirinya di Instagram story. In-depth interview dilakukan dengan enam key informan: tiga key informan wanita dan tiga key informan pria dari generasi millennial yang aktif dalam mengungkapkan dirinya melalui fitur Instagram story. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengungkapan diri yang dilakukan oleh generasi millennial tidaklah mendalam, karena dilakukan dengan kelompok yang lebih besar. Sehingga tidak terjadinya hubungan puncak antara key informan dan pengikut, di mana kedua pihak saling mengenal lebih dalam yang akhirnya mendorong keduanya untuk bisa mengungkapkan diri mereka masing- masing dengan lebih mendalam. / Communication is the most basic human needs, because humans are social creatures. Humans need to interact, get to know other people, introduce themselves, and express themselves. The development of digital media has made it easier for humans to communicate without the need to meet face to face, through online media. Online media can be a platform to build interpersonal relationships and self- disclosure. The purpose of this research is to find out how millennials disclose themselves through the Instagram story feature. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Data collection was carried out with primary data, that is in-depth interviews with key informants, and secondary data, that is non-participant observation to see how the key informants habits in expressing themselves on Instagram stories. In-depth interview was conducted with six key informants: three female key informants and three male key informants from the millennial generation who were active in expressing themselves through the Instagram story feature. The results of the study indicate that the self-disclosure towards the millennial generation is not profound, because it is carried out with a larger group. So that there is no peak relationship between key informants and followers, where both parties get to know each other more deeply which ultimately encourages both of them to be able to express themselves more deeply.
