Abstract

Penelitian ini berawal dari kerisauan guru terhadap kemampuan siswa kelas IV dalam aspek berbicara dan menulis. Sekitar 35 – 40 % siswa di kelas mengalami kesulitan menyampaikan ide, pikiran, dan pendapatnya secara lisan dan tertulis. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, guru mencoba untuk menggunakan pendekatan saintifik. Penelitian yang dilakukan berupa Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) sebanyak tiga siklus dengan subyek penelitian 20 siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk 1) mendeskripsikan penerapan pendekatan saintifik untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dan menulis siswa, 2) menganalisis perkembangan keterampilan berbicara siswa, 3) menganalisis keterampilan menulis siswa, dan 4) mengidentifikasi kendala yang terjadi selama penerapan pendekatan saintifik. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, catatan lapangan, wawancara, dan tes penampilan (berbicara dan menulis) dengan rubrik penilaian, dan dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) penerapan pendekatan saintifik dilaksanakan sesuai langkah-langkah yang telah ditetapkan sejak Siklus I – III, 2) perkembangan keterampilan berbicara meningkat di setiap siklusnya, 3) perkembangan menulis siswa mencapai 75 % keberhasilan dari keseluruhan siswa di kelas, dan 4) kendala selama penerapan pendekatan saintifik telah diatasi dan diminimalisir kekurangannya. / This research is based on teacher’s concern about speaking and writing skills of grade IV students. About 35-40% of the total number of students have difficulties in expressing their ideas, thoughts and opinions verbally and in writing. To overcome the problem, teacher decided to apply a scientific approach. The research conducted is a Classroom Action Research with three cycles, with twenty students as research subjects. The purpose of this research is 1) to describe the implementation of scientific approach to improve students’ speaking and writing skills, 2) to analyze the improvements of students’ speaking skills, 3) to analyze the improvements of students’ writing skills, and 4) identify the barriers occurred during the implementation of scientific approach. Data was collected through observations, field notes, interviews, and performance tests with rubrics and analyzed through qualitative descriptive process. The results showed: 1) the implementation of scientific approach on Cycle I to III went according to plan, 2) the improvements on students’ speaking skills on each cycle, 3) the improvements of students’ writing skill reach 75% success of the total number of student,. And 4) the barriers have been overcome and minimalized.
