Abstract

Nilai senioritas merupakan aspek esensial dalam budaya Tionghoa, hadirnya nilai senioritas tidak bisa dilepaskan dari filosofi Confucian yang berpangaruh besar pada komunitas masyarakat Tionghoa. Filosofi Confucian yang memberikan penekanan pada nilai familisme, paternalisme, dan otoritarianisme. menghasilkan dimensi kuat pada nilai senioritas. Nilai senioritas yang merupakan nilai kultural Tionghoa seringkali hadir pada organisasi-organisasi sekolah yang memiliki corak Tionghoa, nilai ini seringkali di manifestasikan dalam bentuk hierarki yang kuat dalam organisasi, penekanan hubungan keluarga dalam hubungan kerja organisasi serta hadirnya keutamaan dalam menjaga reputasi organisasi. Geert Hofstede melalui teori dimensi kultural menggolongkan organisasi dengan corak kultur Tionghoa dalam kluster organisasi yang memiliki jarak kuasa jauh, gaya bekerja kolektif, respon menghindar dan ketidak-pastian kuat dan orientasi jangka pendek. Dengan memakai pendekatan teori dimensi kultural Hofstede, penelitian ini akan melihat sejauh mana nilai senioritas berpengaruh pada budaya organisasi sekolah ABC, untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut maka penelitian ini memakai riset kualitatif melalui metode wawancara terstruktur, wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa nilai senioritas berpengaruh besar terhadap a). jarak kuasa jauh yang dimanifestasikan melalui kepemimpinan otoriter, b). gaya bekerja kolektif yang dinyatakan melalui manajemen organisasi dengan pendekatan kelompok, c). orientasi jangka pendek organisasi yang diaplikasikan melalui fokus organisasi pada reputasi. / The value of seniority is an essential aspect of the Chinese culture, which cannot be separated from the Confucian philosophy, as it has influenced the Chinese community. Confucian philosophy which gives emphasis on the value of familism, paternalism, and authoritarianism, produce powerful dimension to the value of Seniority. Seniority, the value of the Chinese culture is often present in school organizations that have Chinese characteristics. This value is often manifested in the form of a strong hierarchy in the organization, emphasis on family relationships in the relation of work organization and its presence in maintaining the organization's reputation.The presence of Seniority as a Chinese cultural value within a school organization has shown differences in its identity and organizational culture with other schools in general. Geert Hofstede through the cultural dimension theory, classify the Chinese culture organization as an organization which has the high power distance, a collective work style, strong uncertainty-avoidance and short-term orientation. With the approach of the Hofstede's cultural dimension theory, this thesis will examine on how far the value of Seniority influence the organizational culture of ABC school. To achieve these objectives, this study use a qualitative research method through structured interview, in-depth interview and observation. The study found that the value of seniority greatly affect to several aspects such as, i). high-distance power manifested through authoritarian leadership, ii). collective work that is expressed through the management of the organization with a group approach, iii). Shortterm orientation of the organization which is applied through the organization's focus on reputation.
