Abstract

Saat ini penggunaan media sosial terus meningkat di dunia dan di Indonesia. Di saat yang bersamaan juga, kelompok usia 18 hingga 37 tahun mengalami kondisi loneliness yang lebih buruk dibandingkan dengan kelompok usia yang lainnya.Kondisi loneliness ini mendorong individu untuk mencari alternatif interaksi lain yang salah satunya adalah dengan menggunakan media sosial. Salah satu faktor lain yang memengaruhi penggunaan media sosial adalah trait. Trait digambarkan bisa menjadi moderator bagi pengaruh loneliness terhadap penggunaan media sosial. Penelitian ini berusaha untuk mencari apakah loneliness berpengaruh terhadap penggunaan media sosial serta apakah trait memperkuat pengaruh loneliness terhadap penggunaan media sosial atau tidak. Dengan menggunakan metode survei, maka ditemukan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh signifikan antara loneliness terhadap penggunaan media sosial. Hal ini dikarenakan beberapa keterbatasan penelitian serta adanya faktor-faktor lain yang memengaruhi penggunaan media sosial. Uji moderator juga menunjukkan bahwa trait tidak berperan sebagai moderator pengaruh loneliness terhadap penggunaan media sosial. Trait agreeableness (p = .000) digambarkan memperkuat pengaruh antara loneliness terhadap penggunaan media sosial salah satunya karena bawaan dalam diri individu untuk menjaga relasi interaksi mereka di media sosial. / The use of social media continues to increase in the world and in Indonesia. In the same time, the age group of 18 till 37 years old experienced worse loneliness condition than the other age groups. The loneliness condition drive individual to seek other kind of interaction which one of them by using social media. Trait is described as one of the factors that drives social media use. The trait described can be a moderator for the effect of loneliness on the use of social media. This research aimed to seek out whether loneliness affects the use of social media and also whether trait does increase the effect of loneliness on social media use. With survey, results shown there is no significant effect of loneliness on social media use. This is because of some limitations, and also other factors that affect the use of social media. The moderating test does show that trait doesn’t play a role as a moderator of loneliness effect to the use of social media. Trait agreeableness (p = .000) described increase the effect of loneliness on social media use because of the innates inside them to maintain their interaction relationships in social media.
