Abstract

Indonesian language in international schools in Indonesia has now been displaced by the international language, English. As a result, the confidence and speaking skills in the national language, Indonesian, of students in international schools have not been appropriately developed. This study aims to: (1) describe the process of the implementation of Jigsaw Cooperative Learning strategies to improve students’ confidence and skills to speak in Indonesian language, (2) analyze the level of development of students' confidence, and also (3) the level of development of speaking skills in using Indonesian language during the implementation of Jigsaw Cooperative learning strategies, and (4) identify the obstacles encountered during the implementation process. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was implemented in 3 cycles in May 2014. The subjects of the study were 18 students of Grade 3 PYP Tunas Muda International School, Meruya, Jakarta Academic Year 2013-2014, consisting of 8 male and 10 female students. Data collection techniques applied were the study of documentation, observation, interviews and oral performance test. The results showed: (1) The process of implementation of Jigsaw Cooperative Learning strategies for 3 cycles ran smoothly, (2) the development of students’ confidence level and (3) of speaking skills in Indonesian language have shown improvement, and (4) there were obstacles in the implementation of Jigsaw Cooperative learning strategies, but the problems can be overcome with some solutions. / Kedudukan bahasa Indonesia di sekolah bertaraf internasional di Indonesia seringkali tergeser oleh bahasa internasional, bahasa Inggris. Hal itu menyebabkan rasa percaya diri dan keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa nasional, bahasa Indonesia siswa di sekolah internasional belum terasah. Maka penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan proses penerapan strategi pembelajaran Kooperatif Jigsaw untuk meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dan keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa Indonesia, (2) menganalisis perkembangan tingkat rasa percaya diri siswa, (3) perkembangan tingkat keterampilan berbicara dalam menggunakan bahasa Indonesia selama penerapan strategi pembelajaran Kooperatif Jigsaw dari awal sampai akhir, dan (4) mengidentifikasi kendalakendala selama proses penerapannya. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam 3 siklus pada bulan Mei 2014, dengan subyek penelitian 18 siswa kelas 3 PYP Tunas Muda International School, Meruya, Jakarta Tahun Ajaran 2013-2014 yang terdiri atas 8 siswa laki-laki dan 10 siswa perempuan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik studi dokumentasi, observasi, wawancara dan test unjuk kerja berbicara, serta dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Proses pembelajaran berjalan sesuai dengan langkah-langkah penerapan pembelajaran strategi Kooperatif Jigsaw, (2) perkembangan tingkat rasa percaya diri dan (3) perkembangan tingkat keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa Indonesia siswa menunjukkan peningkatan, serta (4) dalam penerapan strategi pembelajaran Kooperatif Jigsaw terdapat kendala-kendala tapi dapat diatasi dengan beberapa solusi.
