Abstract
Background: Lack of fiber intake can lead to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and colon cancer. In 2016, the average consumption of fiber in fruits and vegetables in Indonesia was only 175 grams per day, which means that less than half the WHO recommendation is 400 grams. Many students do not yet know the types of consumption of fibrous foods and their benefits for smooth bowel movements. Aim: To identify the description of the level of professional knowledge of nurses about the intake of fibrous food in the smooth bowel movement at a private university in western Indonesia. Methodology: This research uses descriptive quantitative method and conducted on June 2020. The population 460 students of nursing professional students in a Private University in West Indonesia. Sampling is accidental sampling. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire and analyze using univariate analysis. Results: From research conducted on 80 professional students, 3 people (3.75%) have a good level of knowledge, 58 people (72.5%) have a sufficient level of knowledge, 19 people (23.75%) have a less knowledge level. Recommendation: It is recommended to further researchers to examine the causal factors that influence the level of knowledge of professional nurses about fibrous food intake.
