Abstract
Background: The range of students ages are 18 – 24 years, their have a responsibility as students to learn and that can’t make them felt free from stress. The stress over can trigger suicidal ideas. Suicide data on American students in 2016 aged 18-26 reached 1,000 people/year. Preliminary study results on 30 students: 45% think unable to continue life, 20% thought hopeless, 5% Think to harm themselves and 30% Have positive think to against stress. Objective: To determine the relationship of stress levels with the suicide ideas in students. Research method: this research is a quantitative correlation. Purposive sampling technique was used with a total sample of 250 respondents. The research instruments uses Stress Perception Scale (0,84) and Reliability (Cronbach Alpha α =0,85) valid, as well as valid Adult Suicidal Idea Questionnaire (> 1,96) and reliable (Cronbach α = 0,97). Results: Found mild stress levels (5,6%), moderate stress (80.0%) and heavy stress (14.4%) on students. The results obtained for Minimal suicide idea levels (77,2%), low risk (17,6%), moderate risk (1,2%), high risk (4,0%). Concluded that correlation between stress and suicide ideation and the result of (p-value = 0,048). Suggestions: further research is needed related to the application of stress coping adaptive and provide social support to college students.
