Abstract

XYZ School is a Christian school in Manado that has implemented teacher mentoring program since the school was established. Changes in the implementation of mentoring program that were designed in structured way created anxiety for leaders who had to become mentor about their leadership ability to focused not only on professional development, but also on shepherding role. This research aims to determine how deep the role of mentor as shepherd leader in professional development, identify challenges faced by mentor and how to overcome it, and identify the impact of mentor’s role as shepherd leader on the process of forming mentee’s life formation. This study uses qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design. Determination of informants is done by purposive and snowball sampling as many as fourteen informants. The research showed that mentor is a shepherding leader in professional development through various intentional activities in mentoring meetings. Mentor struggles with challenges from within. In facing challenges, mentor experiences life changes and growth, then processed in response to God's calling. The small group context builds deep relationship that helps mentor to know, feed, lead, and to be a role model. Mentor’s life changes and deep relationships have influenced mentee and inspired process of forming their life formation. / Sekolah XYZ merupakan sekolah Kristen di kota Manado yang mengimplementasikan program mentoring guru sejak awal sekolah berdiri. Perubahan implementasi program mentoring yang dibentuk secara struktural menimbulkan keresahan bagi pemimpin yang harus menjadi mentor tentang kemampuannya menjalankan peran pemimpin yang bukan hanya berfokus pada pengembangan profesional, namun juga peran penggembalaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa dalam peran mentor sebagai pemimpin yang menggembalakan dalam pengembangan profesional, mengidentifikasi tantangan yang dihadapi mentor dan cara mengatasinya, serta mengidentifikasi dampak peran mentor sebagai pemimpin yang menggembalakan bagi pembentukan formasi kehidupan mentee. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus eksploratif. Narasumber ditentukan secara purposive dan snowball sampling sebanyak empat belas narasumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mentor merupakan pemimpin yang menggembalakan dalam peran pengembangan profesional melalui berbagai kegiatan intensional dalam pertemuan mentoring. Mentor bergumul dengan tantangan dari dalam dirinya. Dalam menghadapi tantangan, mentor mengalami perubahan dan pertumbuhan hidup, serta berproses dalam meresponi panggilan Tuhan. Konteks kelompok kecil membangun kedalaman relasi yang membantu mentor dalam berperan untuk mengenal, memberi makan, memimpin, dan menjadi teladan. Perubahan hidup mentor dan relasi yang dalam memengaruhi mentee, serta memberi inspirasi terhadap proses pembentukan formasi kehidupannya.
