Abstract

Employee performance is one of the factors that affects a company and determines the success of it. Indonesia as one of the largest country holds companies with many workforces. Companies strive to achieve the maximum performance out of their employee by generating various training and development programs including career development. With it the research has the objective to know whether or not the career development can influence employee performance in PT Sariguna Primatirta, Medan. Green (2017, p.129) mentioned that career development is there to encourage people to work and employee tends to work harder for company that value them through career development. Hence, the use of career development is believed to affect the employee’s performance. Quantitative research design and IBM SPSS Statistics V.25 application is used for the study. The writer used descriptive and causal study. With 176 population of whole employee of PT Sariguna Primatirta, Medan, sample of 123 respondents are taken to be analyzed using simple random sampling. The datas has passed the validity, reliability, normality and linear test. The determination test shows 41.5% of the employee performance can be explained by the career development. The hypothesis test (9.26>1.98) resulted in accepting the alternate hypothesis showing that caeer development has positive impact on the employee eprformance. The company is recommended to use more career development program to increase the employee performance, gatherings between employees can bring up positive relationships, two ways feebacks, as well as establishing clearer vision and goal will help in encouraging and motivating the employee’s performance / Kinerja karyawan merupakan salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi suatu perusahaan dan menentukan keberhasilannya. Indonesia adalah salah satu negara terbesar memiliki perusahaan dengan banyak tenaga kerja. Perusahaan pun berusaha untuk mendapat performa maksimal dari karayawan dengan melakukan berbagai program pelatihan termasuk pengembangan karir. Dengan demikian, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah pengembangan karir dapat memengaruhi kinerja karyawan pada PT Sariguna Primatirta, Medan. Green (2017, p.129) menyebutkan bahwa pengembangan karir adalah mendorong orang untuk bekerja dan karyawan cenderung bekerja lebih keras untuk perusahaan yang menghargai mereka melalui pengembangan karir. Oleh karena itu, pemanfaatan pengembangan karir diyakini dapat mempengaruhi kinerja pegawai. Desain kuantiatif dan IBM SPSS Statistics V.25 alan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi deskriptif dan kausal. Dengan 176 populasi seluruh karyawan PT Sariguna Primatirta, Medan, sampel sebanyak 123 responden diambil untuk dianalisis dengan menggunakan simple random sampling. Data telah lolos uji validitas, reliabilitas, normalitas dan uji linier. Uji determinasi menunjukkan 41,5% kinerja pegawai dapat dijelaskan dengan pengembangan karir. Pengujian hipotesis (9.26>1.98) menghasilkan diterimanya hipotesis alternatif yang menunjukkan bahwa perkembangan yang lebih lanjut berpengaruh positif terhadap kinerja karyawan. Perusahaan disarankan untuk menggunakan lebih banyak program pengembangan karir untuk meningkatkan kinerja karyawan, silaturahmi antar karyawan dapat memunculkan hubungan yang positif, kelemahan dua arah, serta menetapkan visi dan tujuan yang lebih jelas akan membantu dalam mendorong dan memotivasi kinerja karyawan.
