Abstract
This research is based on the problems of low vocabulary mastery, reading interest and curiosity of grade II students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of the Engage, Study, Activate learning method in improving vocabulary mastery, reading interest and curiosity of grade II students in learning English. The type of research carried out in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of three learning cycles with the stages of Engage, Study, and Activate. The subjects in this study were 25 students of grade II in one class. The instrument used in this study were rubrics to measure students 'vocabulary mastery and curiosity and a questionnaire to measure students' reading interest. The results showed an increase in the average value of vocabulary mastery in the first cycle that is 66, in the second cycle is 79 and 92 in the third cycle. The increase in the average value of reading interest is 58 in the first cycle, 78 in the second cycle, and 82.5 for the third cycle. The increase in the average value of curiosity is 62.3 in the first cycle, 77.3 in the second cycle and 82.5 in the third cycle. It can be concluded that the Engage, Study, Activate learning method can improve vocabulary mastery, reading interest and curiosity of grade II students in SD XYZ students in West Jakarta. / Penelitian ini berdasarkan pada permasalahan rendahnya penguasaan kosakata, minat baca dan rasa ingin tahu siswa kelas II. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis penerapan metode pembelajaran Engage, Study, Activate dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata, minat baca dan rasa ingin tahu siswa kelas II pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari tiga siklus pembelajaran dengan tahapan Engage, Study, dan Activate. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 25 siswa kelas II dalam satu kelas. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa rubrik untuk mengukur penguasaan kosakata dan rasa ingin tahu siswa serta kuesioner untuk mengukur minat baca siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan rata - rata nilai penguasaan kosakata pada siklus satu yaitu 66, siklus dua yaitu 79 dan siklus tiga yaitu 92. Peningkatan nilai rata – rata minat baca pada siklus satu yaitu 58, siklus dua yaitu 78 dan siklus tiga yaitu 82,5. Peningkatan nilai rata – rata rasa ingin tahu yaitu 62,3 pada siklus satu, 77,3 pada siklus dua dan 82,5 pada siklus tiga. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode pembelajaran Engage, Study, Activate dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata, minat baca dan rasa ingin tahu siswa kelas II SD XYZ di Jakarta Barat.
