Abstract

Indonesian language lessons are often regarded as a boring lesson because many use long texts so that many students feel bored with this subject. This results of a reduction in students' reading interest, does not provide skills for students to understand the text that is read, and does not enhance student activity thinking. This situation inspires researchers to implement SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review) as an alternative solution to take corrective actions. This research method is classroom action research (PTK) and aims to describe the process of applying SQ3R, analyzing the development of reading interest, critical thinking skills and student learning achievement and describing the constraints faced when implementing SQ3R. Data collection was done through observation, written tests, interviews and field notes which were analyzed descriptive qualitative. The results of the study show that the application of SQ3R steps appropriately will facilitate the achievement of learning objectives. There was an increase in students' interest in reading in Cycle I by 50% of the number of students, to 100% in Cycle II and stable at 100% in Cycle III. There was an increase in students' critical thinking skills, namely from 87.5% in Cycle I to 100% in Cycle II and 100% in Cycle III. Student reading comprehension ability also show improvement, this can be seen from the level of student learning completeness in the first cycle of 67.4; Cycle II was 84.2 and Cycle III was 88.6. The results of student interviews and filling out questionnaires showed that students agreed through the application of SQ3R to increase students' reading interest in reading texts, critical thinking skills and reading comprehension ability in Indonesian language. / Pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia seringkali dianggap sebagai pelajaran yang membosankan karena banyak menggunakan teks yang panjang sehingga banyak siswa merasa jenuh dengan materi pelajaran ini. Hal ini berdampak pada berkurangnya minat baca siswa, tidak memberikan keterampilan bagi siswa untuk memahami teks yang dibaca, dan tidak meningkatkan keaktifan berpikir siswa. Situasi ini menggugah peneliti untuk menerapkan SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review) sebagai alternatif solusi untuk melakukan tindakan perbaikan. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) dan bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses penerapan SQ3R, menganalisis perkembangan minat baca, keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kemampuan memahami bacaan siswa serta mendeskripsikan kendala-kendala yang dihadapi saat penerapan SQ3R. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, tes tertulis, wawancara dan catatan lapangan yang dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan langkah-langkah SQ3R dengan tepat akan memudahkan pencapain tujuan pembelajaran. Terjadi peningkatan minat baca siswa pada Siklus I sebesar 50% dari jumlah siswa, menjadi 100% pada Siklus II dan stabil 100% pada Siklus III. Terjadi peningkatan berpikir kritis siswa yaitu dari 87,5% pada Siklus I menjadi 100% pada Siklus II dan 100% pada Siklus III. Kemampuan memahami bacaan siswa juga menunjukkan peningkatan, hal ini dapat dilihat dari tingkat ketuntasan belajar siswa pada Siklus I sebesar 67,4; Siklus II sebesar 84,2 dan Siklus III sebesar 88,6. Hasil wawancara siswa dan pengisian angket menunjukkan bahwa siswa setuju penerapan SQ3R dapat meningkatkan minat baca siswa terhadap teks bacaan, keterampilan berpikir kritis serta kemampuan memahami bacaan Bahasa Indonesia.
