Abstract

Budaya merupakan salah satu aspek yang tidak terpisahkan dalam kehidupan manusia. Salah satu budaya yang tinggal di tanah air ialah Budaya Tionghoa dengan adat dan tradisinya yang menarik. Kemunculan kembali budaya Tionghoa dalam dua dasawarsa terakhir dimaknai sebagai suatu identitas dan pedoman hidup oleh tokoh- tokoh Tionghoa di Kota Singkawang. Keberhasilan Kota Singkawang dalam melestarikan budaya Tionghoa mendorong penulis untuk mengetahui makna pelestarian budaya Tionghoa bagi tokoh-tokoh Tionghoa di Kota Singkawang yang diharapkan dapat memotivasi generasi muda untuk ikut melestarikan budaya Tionghoa agar tidak punah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan data primer, yaitu wawancara dan observasi secara mendalam. Wawancara dilakukan kepada para anggota Majelis Adat dan Budaya Tionghoa (MABT) dan Ibu Walikota Singkawang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pelestarian budaya Tionghoa merupakan sesuatu yang penting untuk dilakukan karena tokoh-tokoh Tionghoa memaknai budaya Tionghoa sebagai suatu identitas atau asal usul mereka serta menjadikan nilai- nilai yang terkandung didalam nya sebagai pegangan dalam menjalani kehidupan / Culture is an inseparable aspect of human life. One of the cultures living in Indonesia is Chinese culture with its interesting customs and traditions. The reappearance of Chinese culture in the last two decades has been interpreted as an identity and a way of life by Chinese figures in Singkawang City. The success of Singkawang City in preserving Chinese culture encourages the writer to know the meaning of preserving Chinese culture for Chinese figures in Singkawang City which is expected to motivate the younger generation to participate in preserving Chinese culture so that it does not become extinct. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological research methods. The research data was collected using primary data, namely interviews and in-depth observations. Interviews were conducted with members of the Majelis Adat Budaya Tionghoa (MABT) and the Mayor of Singkawang. The results of the study indicate that the preservation of Chinese culture is something important to do because Chinese figures interpret Chinese culture as an identity or their origin and make the values contained in it as a guide in living life.
