Abstract

Communication skill and creativity are two skills that young learners require as they develop. Communication skills will aid children in engaging with others and communicating their needs, whilst creativity will aid children not only in arts but also in developing their independence, confidence, and their ability to find solutions when they encounter problems in their daily lives and in the future. The purpose of this research is to improve the communication skills and creativity of preschool children aged 3 to 4 years old so that they can develop the above-mentioned characteristics. This study was conducted in three cycles following the procedures for classroom action research, namely preliminary research, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research were 10 children aged 3-4 years old from XYZ school in Jakarta. The researcher employed a triangulation of data approach to acquire the data, which included a scoring rubric, fieldnotes, and student work .The researcher and two observers completed the evaluation. Data was analysed by reducing, characterising, and drawing inferences from it. The result shows (1) the implementation of storytelling methods in the development of communication skill has yielded excellent result with eight children progressing as expected and two children progressing above expectations.. (2) The implementation of storytelling methods in the development of children’s creativity has yielded excellent results with success indicators showing 5 children progressing as expected and 5 children progressing above expectations. / Keterampilan berbicara dan kreativitas adalah dua kompetensi yang diperlukan anak usia dini dalam masa perkembangannya. Keterampilan berbicara membantu anak berinteraksi dengan orang lain selain membantu mengekspresikan keinginan dan kebutuhan anak tersebut, sedangkan kreativitas tidak hanya membantu siswa dalam berkesenian tetapi membantu siswa menjadi pribadi yang mandiri, percaya diri dan berusaha mencari solusi ketika menemukan masalah dalam kesehariannya maupun pada masa yang akan datang. Tujuan dari penelitian penerapan metode storytelling adalah mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara dan kreativitas siswa TK A yang berusia 3–4 tahun sehingga siswa berkemampuan seperti yang telah disebutkan di atas. Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang diterapkan dengan menjalankan penelitian pendahuluan dan tiga siklus dengan tiga pertemuan sebagai bentuk tindakan perbaikan. Subjek penelitian adalah adalah siswa TK A yang berusia 3–4 tahun di sekolah XYZ di Jakarta. Pengumpulan Data menggunakan triangulasi data yaitu rubrik penilaian, catatan lapangan dan hasil kerja siswa. Penilaian dilakukan oleh peneliti dan dua orang pengamat. Analisa data dilakukan dengan cara mereduksi, mendeskripsikan dan membuat kesimpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) penerapan metode storytelling dalam mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara menunjukkan hasil yang baik dengan 8 siswa Berkembang Sesuai Harapan dan 2 siswa Berkembang Sangat Baik. (2) penerapan metode storytelling dalam mengembangkan kreativitas menunjukkan hasil baik dengan indikator keberhasilan menunjukkan 5 siswa Berkembang Sesuai Harapan dan 5 siswa Berkembang Sangat Baik.
