Abstract

According to the Indonesian Health Profile data in 2010, dyspepsia was ranked 5th in the category of the 10 most common types of disease in inpatients. Nutritional status is one of the factors related to dyspepsia and can be determined by BMI. Therefore, this study was structured to determine the trend of increasing excess body weight based on BMI and its relationship with functional dyspepsia among medical students. Purpose: Knowing the relationship between BMI and functional dyspepsia students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Method: This research is an analytical study with a cross-sectional method. The population were 272 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. The research material was obtained by calculating the respondent's BMI and the Rome IV questionnaire for functional dyspepsia. The data was collected using non-probability, namely convenience sample by distributing online questionnaires using google forms. It was analyzed by Chi square or Fisher Exact as a statistical test. Results: The data showed that among 390 samples involved in this study, there were 206 people (52.8%) suffering functional dyspepsia with the highest sample frequency being in the BMI <23 kg/m2 category as many as 129 people (56.6%). Statistical test result obtained p value 0.097 (P > 0.05), OR 0.695, and 95% CI 0.464-1.042. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between BMI and functional dyspepsia in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University.
