Abstract

Musik memiliki peran penting sebagai medium dalam beribadah di Gereja Katolik. Pada masa kini, Gereja mengalami perubahan instrumen musik pengiring yang seharusnya menggunakan organ pipa atau orgel sebagai instrumen musik yang utama kini beralih menggunakan orkestra sebagai pengiring yang marak digunakan dalam ibadah Gereja Katolik. Musik yang merupakan simbol fasilitator penghubung umat Katolik saat beribadah kini mengalami perubahan makna dalam prosesnya sebagai medium dalam Gereja. Perubahan musik sebagai pengiring ibadah dalam Gereja katolik dimaknai melalui teori simbolik interaksionisme yang melihat bagaimana simbol-simbol berinteraksi dalam kehidupan manusia. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan melalui dua jenis data, yakni data primer berupa wawancara semi terstruktur dan observasi, serta data sekunder berupa studi kepustakaan melalui literatur, buku, dokumen, video yang berkaitan dengan musik dalam Gereja Katolik. Penelitian ini memperoleh hasil berupa perubahan simbol musik sebagai pengiring dalam ibadah Gereja Katolik melalui orkestra dimaknai secara interpretif reflektif dalam premis ketiga teori interaksionisme simbolik yang menunjukkan bahwa Gereja ingin membawa semangat membuka diri untuk menimbulkan suasana meriah dalam perayaan ibadah ekaristi. Musik orkestra membawa suasana baru yang ramai dan meriah dalam mengiringi berjalannya ibadah di Gereja Katolik. / Music has an important role as a medium in worship of the Catholic Church. At present, the Church is experiencing a change in musical accompaniment instruments, which should use a pipe organ or orgel as the main musical instrument, now switching to using an orchestra as accompaniment, which is widely used in Catholic Church services. Music as symbol of a facilitator now experiencing a change in meaning in its process as a medium in the Church. This experience are interpreted through the theory of symbolic interactionism which looks at how symbols interact in human life. The research was conducted using qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Data collection was carried out through two types of data; primary data by semi-structured interviews and observations, and secondary data by literature studies through literature documentation related to music in the Catholic Church. This research obtained results in the form of a change in musical symbols as accompaniment in Catholic Church services through an orchestra interpreted in an interpretive reflective manner in the third premise of the theory of symbolic interactionism which shows that the Church wants to bring a spirit of openness to create a festive atmosphere in the celebration of Eucharistic worship.
