Abstract

Penelitian ini didasarkan pada keterampilan siswa dalam berbicara yang masih kurang. Siswa kurang mampu mengemukakan pendapat dengan tata bahasa yang baik serta intonasi yang tepat. Saat melakukan presentasi atau menyampaikan pertanyaan, kalimat kurang tertata dengan baik sehingga menyebabkan kebingungan bagi yang mendengarkan. Kurangnya keterampilan berbicara siswa akan mengakibatkan pesan atau penjelasan tidak dapat tersampaikan secara maksimal kepada siswa lainnya. Keterampilan siswa dalam berbicara diharapkan dapat meningkat melalui penerapan metode Six Thinking Hats. Melalui penelitian ini juga diharapkan dapat menjelaskan bagaimana penerapan metode Six Thinking Hats yang dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Pelton yang dilakukan dalam dua kali pembelajaran, mulai dari tanggal 16 Okober 2018 dan tanggal 18 Oktober 2018 yang melibatkan 18 siswa kelas VIII-B Sekolah Palembang Harapan dengan subyek 5 orang siswa. Data diperoleh melalui lembar observasi yang dilakukan oleh guru mentor, rekan sejawat dan siswa, serta dianalisis melalui analisis deskriptif. / This research is based on students' lack of speaking skills. Students are less able to express opinions with good grammar and proper intonation. When making a presentation or asking a question, the sentence is not well organized, causing confusion for those who listen. The lack of students’ speaking skill will cause the messages or explanations will not be delivered optimally to other students. The lack of students' skills in speaking is expected to increase through the application of the Six Thinking Hats method. Through this research, it is also expected to explain how the application of the Six Thinking Hats method can improve students' speaking skills. The research method that the researcher used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Pelton. which was conducted in two lessons, starting from October 16, 2018 and October 18, 2018 involving 18 students of class VIII-B Palembang Harapan School with 5 students’ subject. Data were obtained through mentor teacher observation sheets, peer observation sheets and student observation sheets, and analyzed through descriptive analysis. The conclusion obtained is that there is an increase in students' speaking skills. This can be seen from the changes of data between the first application and the second application based on teacher observation, peer, and students observation. There are additional numbers of students who get into the category “very good” in terms of fluency in speaking, the use of intonationand clear articulation.. The application of the STH method is carried out by dividing students into 5 heterogeneous groups, explaining the problems to be discussed, explaining the STH method, sharing hand out discussion issues, selecting group leaders, dividing caps, group discussions, expressing opinions, and drawing conclusions. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh yaitu metode six thinking hats dapat membantu siswa untuk mengasah keterampilan mereka dalam berbicara. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari perubahan data antara penerapan pertama dengan penerapan kedua berdasarkan data observasi guru mentor, rekan sejawat, dan peerassessmen siswa, terdapat penambahan jumlah siswa yang masuk ke dalam kategori “baik – sangat baik” dalam hal kelancaran berbicara, penggunaan intonasi dan artikulasi yang jelas. Penerapan metode STH ini dilaksanakan dengan langkah membagi siswa ke dalam 5 kelompok heterogen, menjelaskan masalah yang akan dibahas, menjelaskan mengenai metode STH, membagikan hand out masalah bahasan, pemilihan ketua kelompok, membagi topi, diskusi dalam kelompok, mengungkapkan pendapat, dan penarikan kesimpulan.
