Abstract

Selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung, peneliti melihat kemampuan siswa kelas VIII Kristen Lentera Ambarawa dalam memahami konsep pembelajaran tidak mengalami peningkatan. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi masalah melalui observasi dan hasil lembar tes pemahaman konsep dengan persentase sebanyak 68% jumlah siswa yang tidak lulus dan 32% jumlah siswa yang lulus kriteria ketuntasan minimal yang telah ditetapkan sekolah yakni 76. Peneliti menemukan adanya masalah berupa kurangnya pemahaman konsep siswa mengenai topik struktur tubuh tumbuhan pada mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, yakni tidak mampu menjelaskan materi pembelajaran menggunakan kata kata sendiri, tidak mampu membandingkan materi satu dengan yang lain, dan tidak mampu menerapkan konsep pada pemecahan suatu kasus. Untuk itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa melalui penerapan metode demonstrasi pada topik struktur tubuh tumbuhan, dan menjelaskan langkah-langkah penerapan metode demonstrasi dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas model Pelton, yang dilakukan di Sekolah Kristen Lentera Ambarawa, pada tanggal 15 Juli sampai 18 Oktober 2018, dengan mengambil subjek siswa kelas VIII sebanyak 22 orang siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar tes dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan peningkatan pencapaian indikator pemahaman konsep pada penerapan tindakan pertama yakni 68% indikator pertama, 87% indikator kedua, 89% indikator ketiga, dan 70% indikator keempat. Pada penerapan tindakan kedua yakni 74% indikator pertama, 82% indikator kedua, 90% indikator ketiga, dan 88% indikator keempat. Sedangkan, berdasarkan persentase tingkat kelulusan yakni 73% siswa yang lulus KKM pada penerapan tindakan pertama, dan 77% siswa yang lulus KKM pada penerapan tindakan kedua. Jadi, dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode demonstrasi dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa mengenai topik struktur tubuh tumbuhan pada mata pelajaran IPA./ During the learning process, the researcher observed that there is no enhancement on Grade VIII students Kristen Lentera Ambarawa about their conceptual understanding. Based on the results of problem identification during the observation and the result of the conceptual understanding test, there were 68% students who failed and only 38% students who passed the test, the minimum score of the test was 76, which decided by school regulation. The researcher found a problem about the lack of students’ conceptual understanding in learning the body structures of plant in Science subjects; students were not able to explain the learning material using their own words, students were not able to compare one material to other materials, and students were not able to apply the concepts to solve the cases. Therefore, the research aimed to describe the enhancement of students’ conceptual understanding in learning the body structures of plant through the implementation of demonstration method and explain the steps of implementing the demonstration method to enhance students’ conceptual understanding. The method of this research is a Classroom Action Research, which steps are based on Pelton. It was conducted at Kristen Lentera Junior High School, from July 15th - October 18th 2018 and the subject of the research was 22 grade VIII students. The instruments that used in this research are the test form and the observation form. The results of the data showed the improvement of indicator’s achievement about conceptual understanding in the first implementation, which was 68% for the first indicator, 87% for the second indicator, 89% for the third indicator, and 70% for the fourth indicator. The result of second implementation was 74% for the first indicator 82% for the second indicator, 90% for the third indicator, and 88% for the fourth indicator. Based on passing grade’ percentage, there was 73% students passed the minimum score in the first implementation and 77% students passed in the second implementation. So, from the research could be concluded that the demonstration method could enhance Grade VIII students’ conceptual understanding in learning the body structures of plant in Science subjects.
